Updated: 1 day ago

In this episode of ChiefsClash we gathered experts to discuss the topic of HR in iGaming, how different it is from other industries, how candidates are being chosen, and what is being taken into consideration when hiring. Our guests are Salome Philia, Head of HR, Crocobet, Anastasiia Shamrylo - Chief People Officer at Fidel Partners and Mark Klinger, agent for iGaming Executives at MSK Associates.

Is there any difference between HR in iGaming and other industries?

  • Salome: So from my experience, the iGaming industry is very different in some aspects. The first it's the mindset of the people they are working in this industry which is dynamic and very data driven. And it's mainly, the employees of the company consists of Gen Z generation, in Crocobet for example. All of them have the winner mindset. We know what mindset. It means that in every situation you have to win or you have to lose. So that's why you are trying always your best to win.

  • Anastasia: I agree that HR in iGaming it's different because if you will talk about traditional industries HR is about structure, rules, job description, something like this. But in iGaming its all about flexibility, purpose, ownership. Because you always need to build new teams and you don't have a lot of time and must do this quickly. If we take Head of Retention for example, for us it's someone who will build the player journey from the ground up, create loyalty system or product retention strategy. We need this person who is ready to do everything from zero.

  • Mark: One big difference is that the iGaming industry is very heavy regulated. Very similar to the banking and financial services. The way this industry is being regulated is changing the face of hiring talent, who you hire, when you hire. Because there's lots of people in the industry that work across these shall we say black, gray and white areas and therefore their understanding of compliance and data varies greatly. And secondly, I have found that in different industries HR is seen as a cost center. I think HR is usually seen as a much more strategic partner. When I'm working with board executive business owners a lot of business owners see HR and they will bring that same CPO with them wherever they move because if they're going to grow a business it is extremely strategic to have the right person with the right mindset aligned to you.
